My Journey to Meaningful Goal-Setting with Sunsama
Let’s be real: in this hustle culture, we're always on the lookout for that magic trick or app that’ll turn us into productivity machines. But what if the key lies not in gadgets and gizmos, but in our own habits and mindsets?
Ever noticed how some days you knock out tasks like a champ, while on others, you’re dragging your feet trying to finish even the simplest things? Is there a secret sauce to staying productive and also feeling good about what you do?
I'm still figuring out what productivity means for me, but I've got a better grasp on it now. I think it’s all about finding the right blend of Projects, Planning, and Mindfulness. A huge shoutout to Sunsama for helping me discover this!
Here are the three main ways Sunsama has made a difference for me:
1. Daily Planning
Starting the day with a clear plan can change everything. Sunsama has a cool feature that guides you through daily planning. Sure, you could use any to-do app or calendar for this, but Sunsama’s integrations (like with Outlook and Todoist) make it super seamless.
For example:
- All my project tasks from meeting notes get synced right to Todoist, from my preferred notes app - Capacities.
- I can easily check my Outlook emails that need responses or work.
These features come together beautifully in Sunsama, helping me map out my day effectively.
2. Weekly Objectives
This feature has been a game-changer. I’m not too keen on AI scheduling, especially since I have a traditional 9-5. I prefer to outline my week and setting weekly objectives has become key to my success.
With this, I can:
- Organize my business meetings
- Follow up on projects
- Plan my writing sessions
Having a clear plan really helps me accomplish more and do it well. It also encourages me to be more mindful about my tasks (instead of trying to do everything all at once).
3. Weekly Review
Okay, I’ll be honest—I’m still working on this one. I’ve tried to establish a weekly review routine, but there are weeks I just can’t seem to stick to it.
The idea is to look back at your tasks, projects, and notes from the week. I use different apps like Capacities for my notes and Fabric as my digital library.
I aim to check my schedules and projects during my review, but I really need to carve out dedicated time for it and make it a habit.
Other Features
Sunsama also offers a focus mode and lets you add subtasks and notes to your tasks (I love jotting down quick reminders for important tasks).
Overall, Sunsama is my go-to space for staying on top of things while being mindful about my work. However, I’d love to see some improvements in the iOS app, since it feels a bit basic. A nicer interface and some more features from the desktop version would make it even better.
I’d love to hear about your experiences with Sunsama or any other planner you like!
